My passion is for portraiture, and for the connection it can give us to people and to our own shared history. I use initial sketches, and a digital camera to photograph the subject, taking numerous shots to capture the natural essence of the sitter (a few seconds of unconsciousness where you are at one with your own thoughts, unaware of the world around you). At all times, I consult with the sitter to establish the desired results. Please contact me for any queries.

My aim as a portrait artist is to express the importance of the preservation of our cultural ancestry, keeping the past alive and current through the art of oil painting. This medium has a place in history as one preferred by many of the great portrait artists of all time, and yet it also allows me to explore and express my own creativity and artistry.
Themed portraiture involves the sitter dressing in authentic period clothing. This could be inspired by a connection to their past, a historical or fictional character, or an era in which they have a particular interest. The use of various props, objects, etc. from the period re-enforces their connection to the history, and can convey meanings beyond the surface level.
Rembrandt particularly used themed portraits to introduce some historical premise so that the painting would not appear to date as contemporary fashions change over time. My aim is similar, but I reference history to keep it alive and current.
I take inspiration from the world around me, whether it be from the beauty of objects of the past the works of the great masters, as I see them at exhibitions and galleries, talks from other artists, or from music. Classical music, especially, helps to guide and inspire me, as I listen to it while I paint.
My work represents the way I feel about what is important in life – people and our ancestry, as we are a natural progression of the past. Each piece of jewellery, object, and item of clothing has its own history, has a story to tell. Through these things, and through art, we can link our past, present and future, and keep these stories alive.
“ A man at work, making something which he feels will exist because he is working at it and wills it, is exercising the energies of his mind and soul as well as of his body. Memory and imagination help him as he works. Not only his own thoughts, but the thoughts of the men of past ages guide his hands, and, as part of the human race, he creates. If we work thus we shall be men, and our days will be happy and eventful.”
